Rocky Point, NY

So we had planned this ride for the week earlier, but rain cancelled our plans much to the disappointment of everyone involved. So this Friday when it looked like rain, we packed up, and hit the road at 7 am regardless. Zilla, Evan, MTV and Trekkie in one monster truck, and Dave and I in the family van.
Arrive to find Wheelie Wonka waiting for us. Good to see him after so long. Also there to show us around was Jeff, a frequent visitor to Sprain on those Long Island “CLIMB” invasions. Also special guest, Augie, a freind of Evan’s, and the builder of these fine trails.

So into the woods, we were cruising at 15 mph in a nice pace line right off the bat. Though the forest of scrub oak and blueberry bushes, over the Whoop de Doos, and now at 20 mph.
The elevation change was non-existent, and it made for a fun cruise. Off the front over the biggest hills, I picked up the pace and rode almost as fast as my middle ring would take me. Through a fern forest, and pine “desert” and finally back to the lot after almost 19 miles.

But wait, the second ride of the day was a visit to Brookhaven, and Glacier Ridge. The trail which looked like it was cut yesterday with a weed wacker, sapped the energy out of the crew, not to mention the heros we ate just before getting there.
Lost Trekkie. Searched, and decided to call it a “everyone gets dropped” ride.
Wheelie navigated us through this trail system, which was a serious workout compared to Rocky Point. No coasting here, just energy sucking, loamy earth, and a thousand turns.

Overall, a great day of riding. Not like anything in Westchester, and therefore well worth the trip. I will certainly be back.
