This was my first Sport race. Home territory, although I had never ridden this course or anywhere near it. I was a roadie back when I lived here. A flat with 5 miles to go put me into third.
Root 66 Brialee, Ashford, CT 2004
The Root 66 series is well run. Leaders jerseys, and good venues.
Actually one of my best starts. Second into the woods, right behind Mike.

Garth shadowed by Roger Racer.
Second lap. Feeling good, sitting in behind the two leaders.
Garth coming out of the first wooded section ahead of his class.
Garth always seems to be more relaxed than he should at races.
The winner on the day. Guillaume Loize.
Cruising with the rear tire at 10psi.
Mike right behind me.
Thinking like a pro. Zipping up for the line.
Looking back for the 4th place guy.
